One of life’s struggles is finding enough time in a day to accomplish everything we set out to do. The first thing most people cut out of a busy schedule is their workout. But there are ways to keep up your fitness routine without spending an excessive amount of time at the gym. You can make the most out of a shorter workout between things like the type of exercises you choose and having a plan for your gym session. Below we outline four things you can incorporate into your daily workouts to maximize your time without hindering results.

4 Ways to Get the Most Out of Your Workout

  1. Total Body Workout

  2. Short Rest Periods

  3. Compound Movements

  4. Have A Plan

1. Total Body Workout

If you are cramped for time, one key component to remember is to incorporate all your major muscle groups in each session. This will allow you to increase your work capacity and recovery.

2. Short Rest Periods

Having shorter rest periods will save you time because you’re taking less time in between each set. However, it also allows you to keep your heart rate up and your nervous system firing, which forces your muscles to recover quicker. So put the phone down in between sets and focus on your workout.

3. Compound Movements

This is a no-brainer. You will get 110% more out of your workout if you do squats instead of leg extension or pull-ups, deadlifts instead of isolating bicep curls. It’s all about creating the most significant load for each exercise, which in turn gives you the best/quickest results for your time spent. Learn more about compound exercises you can incorporate into your workout.

4. Have a Plan

If you already have an established workout ready to go, there is no lag time to figure out your next exercise. Come prepared! Following a program or routine will also allow you to chart your progress. It’s not uncommon for people to outline their workout on a phone or notebook that they can bring to the gym for reference.
