Misinformation in this space can not only harm us in some ways but also hold us back from even attempting to create a stronger and healthier self. This recent fitness and diet survey shows just how many people either believe or are uncertain about a handful of common myths. Myth 1: You will get bulky if you lift weights.
Myth 2: You can spot-reduce fat loss.
Myth 3: You need to do a lot of cardio to lose weight.
Myth 4: Just eat less to lose weight.
Myth 1: You will get bulky if you lift weights.
This is a common question among females. The answer is no. To increase significant muscle mass (bulk), you will need to train specifically for that and eat an extreme excess in calories.
Myth 2: You can spot-reduce fat loss.
You can't do 1000 sit-ups a day and think it will drastically change your stomach fat. However, the truth is our body draws energy as a whole, not from one targeted area.
Myth 3: You need to do a lot of cardio to lose weight.
You typically burn about 100 calories for every mile you run. 1lb of fat equals 3,500 calories — that's 35 miles to burn 1lb of fat. The math doesn't add up. Yes, cardio is important, but there are better ways to help increase your metabolism and help your body work for you, not against you.
Myth 4: Eat less to lose weight.
Yes, calories in, calories out. You need to burn more than what you consume, but it isn't as simple as just eating less. Calories are our energy, so if you don't eat enough (especially for those who are overweight), your body will go into starvation mode and hold onto fat instead of burning it. It's better to find a healthy balance at a caloric deficit that fits you as an individual.
